FISH ON! Event

April 5, 2014 - METU & Town of Marion Kick Off Spring Fishing Season!

Nearly 200 fishing enthusiasts participated in "FISH ON!," cosponsored by the Mountain Empire Chapter of Trout Unlimited (METU) and the Town of Marion. Everyone enjoyed a special family fishing event on Heritage Day at Holston Hills Community Golf Course in Marion, Virginia.

The Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (DGIF) made a special stocking for Heritage Day in the middle fork of the Holston River running through the golf course--and arranged for a special guest to attend:  SMOKEY THE BEAR!

Activities included:

  • Prizes for various categories
  • Fly fishing instruction
  • Stream insect demonstration
  • Fly tying demonstration
  • Information aboout METU
  • Free frisbees for kids

Celebrating Heritage Day, the traditional start of fishing season, this was a great opportunity for participants of all ages to enjoy the sport, to learn more about the craft, and to get information about preserving fishing opportunities for future generations--all in a beautiful setting along the Holston River.

Thanks to METU chapter members for the time devoted to the success of this event:  Ernie, Marie, and Staci Barker, Paul York, Heather and Kevin Davidson, Tony Pane and Carol and Eric Sacknoff.  METU appreciates the opportunity to partner with the Town of Marion in sponsoring FISH ON!
